What is Facebook Diversity Info & How to Add It

Facebook is in the process of rolling out Diverse Business Categories to business pages located in the US. By filling in your page’s Diversity Info Facebook will help highlight your business. Facebook pages that are majority (51%) owned, controlled, and operated by individuals in a diverse business category can add their diversity info. As part of their commitment to empowering diverse voices, Facebook will highlight these businesses soon. If you qualify, you can help your business page stand out from the competition by filling out your page’s Facebook Diversity Info.

Why You Should Add Facebook Business Diversity Info to Your Page

Adding diversity information to your Facebook business page makes great sense. It will help you reach more customers, connect with Facebook users, and help show off the diversity that exists online.

Facebook will highlight diverse businesses on their Businesses Nearby feature. By adding your business’s diverse info, your business may be highlighted along with similarly diverse businesses. For instance, if you identify your page as LGBTQ-owned, your business may be grouped with other LGBTQ-owned businesses in your area. This follows a trend Google started when they added the option to add similar data to their Google My Business pages earlier this year.

How to Add Facebook Diversity Info to Your Business Page

  1. Log into your Facebook account and visit your Business Page
  2. On Desktop, select Settings from the upper right side. On Mobile, select More and then Edit Settings.
  3. Select Diversity Info from the middle of the Settings Option
  4. Follow the Business Diversity Info options to select the applicable diversity options for your business.

Diversity Info is being rolled out to US-based Facebook Business Pages. If the following options aren’t available for your page yet, bookmark this page and check back later. Also, your page needs to be listed as a business and not another option (fan page, website).

What Are Facebook’s Diverse Business Categories?

There are five diverse business categories on Facebook’s Diversity Info screen. To have your business page highlighted with other diverse businesses in places like the Businesses Nearby feature, your business must be majority (51%) owned, operated, and controlled by one or more individuals from the following categories.

The categories are not exclusionary and you can pick multiple categories for your business. For example, if your business is a partnership owned by a veteran and someone who identifies as Hispanic, you can select both options for your page’s Diversity Info and be highlighted under both categories.

Currently, the following primary categories are available:

  • Minority-owned
  • Women-owned
  • Veteran-owned
  • LGBTQ-owned
  • Disability-owned

If you select minority-owned, you further need to select an ethnicity. The options are:

  • American Indian or Alaskan Native
  • Asian
  • Black or African-American
  • Hispanic
  • Native Hawaii or Other Pacific Islander
  • Two or more ethnicity
